Multichannel recorders

A recorder writing four or eight channels is not squashed into one track. Every channel gets its own, and the clip says how many there are.

Recorder takes on the A1 track labelled 5ch — Five channels in every take.

On the timeline

The recorder takes lie on their own tracks in green, and the bottom right corner of the clip says 4ch, 5ch and so on. Hover to see the exact number.

Split channels to mono

The Export menu has a Split channels to mono checkbox. With it on, every channel becomes its own mono track both on the timeline and in the export: L and R for stereo, 2, 3… for the rest. Camera sound stays linked to its video. The checkbox is off on every launch.

In the editors

Premiere Pro gets every channel as a separate mono track, ready to mix, and sorts them into channels by itself.
DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro get a track per channel, but after the import every recorder track hears the first channel. For each track select the recorder clips, open Clip Attributes and set Source Channel to 2, 3 and so on. The app reminds you about this after the export.
