Updates
The app checks for a new version by itself: at launch and then every six hours. Nothing breaks without the internet, the check simply happens later.
The banner in the top bar

Before installing, the app checks the signature and notarisation of the downloaded file. Updates within the major version are free for every licence holder.
Checking by hand
The License menu, then Check for Updates…. If there is no update, You're up to date appears at the bottom with the version number. If the check failed, the app says Couldn't check for updates: that is not the same as “there are no updates”.
If the install failed on macOS. A message appears, Could not write to Applications, and the folder with the new CamHeard.app opens. Drag it into Applications over the old one.
